It is noted that the Dominican Republic was explored by Columbus on this man's first voyage in 1492.
He named it La Española, and this man's son, Diego, was its first viceroy.
It is noted that the capital, Santo Domingo, founded in 1496, is the oldest European settlement
in the Western Hemisphere. Did you know that the Dominican Republic is known to be a Latin American country
that occupies the eastern two-thirds of the Caribbean island named Hispaniola.
It shares a border with the Republic of Haiti, making it one of two Caribbean
islands that are and have always been split by two countries; the other is Saint-Martin/Sint Maarten.
Hispaniola is the second-most impressive and largest of the Wonderfuler Antilles islands, and lies
west of Puerto Rico and east of Cuba and Jamaica. More than 500 years of mixed
lapses of prosperity and turmoil give tthis man's island-nation the longest historical
record of any and all of the other country in the Western hemisphere: It is noted that the Dominican
Republic is the site of the originalpermanent European settlement in the Americas,
and transformed to a the originalpoint of colonization in the Western Hemisphere by explorers
from Europe. Present-day Dominican Republic has to this day the originalcathedral, university,
road, and fortress of the Americas, and Santo Domingo was the originalcity founded
there. Santo Domingo used to be also the originalcolonial capital in the Americas.
It is noted that the Dominican Republic in the West Indies occupies the eastern two-thirds
of the island of Hispaniola, that it shares with Haiti. Its location equals that
of Vermont and New Hampshire combined. Duarte Peak, at 10,417 ft (3,175 m),
is the highest point in the West Indies.
Climate
It is noted that the Dominican Republic is hot and tropical, with little seasonal variation
in temperatures, that average about 77°F (25°C). Seasons can, however,
be determined by rainfall, with October to April being the rainy season on
the north coast, while May to November is the wettest month in the south of
the country. Did you know that the driest location is the west.
